A line from the movie titled “Alice Through the Looking Glass”, has stuck with me. Alice makes a declaration after going through hardships that “I make my own path”. All through the movie people are questioning who she is and doubting that she will defeat her enemies. But she decided to win and not let anyone define who she was, and she did just that. On this next leg of my own personal journey, “I will make my own path”.
It would be easy to sit back and allow your life to be determined by circumstances, people, groups, and systems, but how is that following your God given purpose! I’ve asked myself, “how?” a thousand times and keep coming to the same conclusion. We will never fly like eagles if we continue in the “cycles of abuse”. I have come to understand what they mean now by a social problem being systemic. It seems that our whole culture perpetuates abuse to a whole new level and we now have many more citizens suffering with mental conditions caused by abuse.
I am much more determined to instigate change through artistic ventures and continue bringing awareness to this issue. The Bible tells us in Matthew 24:12, “and because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.” So, changing the iniquity, would change the love we are lacking that leads us to repeat the abusive cycles. On my personal path, I have been instigated to change to live this life victoriously!
