Taking care of myself is something that I am not accustomed to. I actually thought I was until my counselor revealed otherwise. My excuses included, "I don't have time" and "I am just too busy". For most women, nurturing others can become a natural part of life and we lose ourselves in the care we provide to our families. What happens when we burn out? Who picks up the slack and takes care of us? Hence the importance of learning this key element of the healing process. Neglecting yourself can also be detrimental to your overall health. My blood pressure has been out of control lately and the medicine hasn't been working, which is why the counselor reminded me to take time to take care of myself. Do the things that you love doing. Surround yourself with things that you love and that make you feel good about yourself. This will take your mind off of the stress and problems of life and give you a sense of purpose. When you truly love you, you will make the time and the effort.
