Although it was raining, driving alongside this beautiful sunset was breathtaking. The natural scene of nature gives us all hope. Just looking at all the beauty in the earth and remembering that God made this for us to enjoy brought so much joy and peace back into my life. This picture was taken while driving through the beautiful rolling hills of Kentucky.
As a single mom, now raising four kids, I had to realize that it is okay to take a break and get some much-needed relaxation. Stress will kill you if you let it. After being on medication for high blood pressure and seeing a heart specialist something needed to change fast. As I started my destress journey 3 simple pleasures were discovered. Bringing with them a deep sense of reflection and rejuvenation.
"My Destress Journey Included 3 Simple Pleasures"
First, I decided to get away. I didn't plan some extravagant vacation. Instead, I called up family members living in another state and jumped in my car to drive the 6-hour trip. I didn't spend a large sum of money. Yet I knew I needed to get away to heal myself. Just being away from the mundane routine of my stressful life gave me some time to breathe and think and clear my head.
Next, the beauty of nature during the drive was very impressive. I was inspired to be a part of it and began hiking. Noticing the birds chirping in the early morning hours is something I realized I missed during my stressful days. So, a conscious effort was made to add this back into my life on a consistent basis.
Finally, I found photography along my journey. Enjoying the new scenes drew me in to wanting to capture a small memory to hold on to when I returned to my normal routine. Many essays and research has been done on the therapeutic qualities of photography. One study suggests that a person can gather fragments of their souls from each photo. Regardless of any other thoughts, I took advantage of one photographer's suggestion to use it to uplift and balance my mood. I find peace when I am out in nature and capturing different images.
The journey to heal is different for all. Although I found 3 simple pleasures to assist me along my way. You may find something completely different. You are welcome to continue your path with us as we help others find their creative healing journey.
